David Fowkes has been teaching chemistry for over 35 years. His teaching career started at King Edward VI School Southampton. Subsequent posts as Head of Chemistry then Head of Science in Framlingham College and then Rossall School enabled him to develop further resources and techniques for the teaching of chemistry.

David founded Goldhill Education in 2002 to provide tuition and digital resources to support the teaching and learning of science.

Some of David's publications

David was one of the content authors for the highly acclaimed Multimedia Science School by Plato learning and he has published a number of GCSE and A level chemistry texts for Pearson and Nelson Thornes ( now part of Oxford University Press). His current project is the authoring, development and production of mychem.co.uk to support the teaching and learning of chemistry for IGCSE and A level OCR , Edexcel and AQA

David also works part-time as Director of the IB Institute at St.Clare's, Oxford where he is responsible for teacher training courses in cooperation with the IBO

They have been tutoring our daughter for A-level Chemistry and Biology over her final year of college, which she has really enjoyed and has found very helpful. Even after her A-levels were cancelled due to Covid-19, they have both gone above and beyond to continue with support, and even researched her chosen degree course content to talk about things relevant to that. David made an enormous difference to our daughter's knowledge, confidence and enjoyment of IGCSE Chemistry.....So much so that, much to our surprise, she is now doing it for A level.

David's love of the subject is infectious; his lessons are always fun with lots of opportunity to undertake practical experiments in his purpose built classroom / laboratory.

Despite the difficulties that remote learning generates, David has managed this transition with seamless efficiency. Our daughter naturally looks forward to going back to face to face tuition with David but in the meantime has been very grateful for his continued support.
